INTRODUCTION
HEAR THIS: I have a friend who has traveled to North Korea and how secured he felt there knowing that the securities are following him everywhere. Imagine a country where, there is two million police, two million soldiers and more than ten million paramilitary and civil defense and FBI in a sixty million population country, you should be aware that the only business good in that country is security business. If ten million people are working to keep you safe, it means a police for six people. How many can commit a crime if you take away the children of twenty million, it mean a police for every four person? This story was told when I asked my friend the foes and the don’ts of this great country and he said to me, you must honor the leader of the country, you must never take picture of the public places any how without approval, avoid talking about the government, you may be brought in to explain what you are talking about, be at home when the government wants you to be home, keep your mouth shut if you cannot explain it well if you are called to do so with evidence. You may be talking to the police. If you get angry at the leader of the country, keep it to yourself, you know what he did to a relative, he sent lions on him, he may put you in a fish tank where small fish with sharp teeth will have their meal.
I hated to tell you that I hate to write an article like this for anybody or any entrepreneur living in the north of Nigeria and yet, I am optimistic that you can’t do without the necessary information that will change your life for good.
What will be different from the country we talked about and the country Nigeria is that we say we value democracy and the world comes and build the family of the dead girl who was killed a house as if the house will bring back the family. If you take the needed measure and take to the works that is good, you might not need trouble but you will do something to it. Here are fifty things YOU MUST NEVER DO IN THE NORTH OF NIGERIA AND WHY…
1. AS an entrepreneur you are not permitted to be part and parcel of any discursion which involves their God no matter who said it, if they have not agreed with you and had accepted that you can talk freely and invited you to the topic themselves after you told them you are a novice in the things of their God.
2. As a young girl, you are not permitted, even for a young man to have a friendship that you made a promise to if you can’t keep it especially boyfriend and girl friend and soon, you want out of the relationship without doing so peacefully.
3. if there are many roads that leads to where you are going, to your class and to your lecture hall, take the long walk than to pass in front of their church and get yourself unwanted notice especially if you are a girl, your rejection may lead to argument and riot.
4. Never take picture near the mosque or any place that belongs to the church without approval.
5. Never agree to bring the Holy book to any one, or touch it, the bible may be handled as you like, many has died for the sake of one slip of the Koran that fail of the book that they were holding and the people has accused them for desecrating the holy book.
6. Your office must never be near their church, and you don’t know how to say goodbye to Friday business. Every Friday, you must never come to the market or you are of their worship.
7. You must understand it is better to close out every discussion than quarrel about it. Some quarrels may lead to a fight and the fighting may lead to riot and burning of things.
8. What if you made money in the north, how would you spend it? It is advised that you live and lead a quiet life. It is not a must you will drive the latest car that is on the market, you can drive a new gulf car old model and lead a simple life than drive a latest car and the people came always to beg for alms and see you as a mean and wicked man whom cannot help the poor. Once they riot, they will be at your place first.
9. A latest advice: if you have extra money to spend don’t invest in the north, you can invest in American company where business and economy is 70 percent safe. I was told that in 1965, to go to Elvis show, you pay five dollars as at that time in La Vagas, and today for the same show it is equivalent to fifty dollars which is ten percent inflation. When sachet water was being first manufactured, it is five naira, and soon ten naira and soon, twenty naira all within eight years not seventy years. Not to talk of properties that would be fire if your brother and friends got angry and rioted.
10. You live in a country part where you are constantly reminded that unnatural death by riot can come at any time and take you away. You do not need to know what is happening your enemy will not stop until he or she produced testimonies of those who does not believe. The soldiers of Afghanistan were rejoicing when Americans left, and saying that unbelievers have left the country.
11. Know what a protected area is for you. a protected area may be a place where you have a person of your kind who knew the signs and times and of true peace and signs of trouble and to remind each other when you see one or have revelation of such a thing to prepare in advance and save yourself, or leave the place for them for some time.
12. Wait for the police and wait for them to save you from criminal and the elements you see daily now that they have left the streets.
13. Pray loud only if you live in the Christian community but if not you shall pray loud only in the church.
14. Are religious fanatics, you shall go and read all the does and don’ts of the group and learn to avoid them even if you are not of other religion.
15. One of the things you shall avoid is bad language and statement. It has lead to crisis and riot in the past of people who have waiting for opportunity to cause trouble in Nigeria.
16. Do not do business on loan and debt to anyone in the north if you are not sure he is going to pay, the tendency you may be in for a surprise is high. God may e wanting you to forget such debt if you don’t lose your life.
17. Never go anywhere without informing your family members and how did a girl who was missing in the delta side of Nigeria was found a child bride in the north?
18. Pray in your heart everywhere you desire to go for protection and let the God you serve sees you through.
19. Never stop praying for the peace of Nigeria.
20. Start praying for peace before the coming of the election and don’t go rejoicing immediately you hear someone who is not from the north of Nigeria has lost an election, you may be calling for trouble.
