  • THE BUHARI’S BROKEN WINDOW THEORY: BY IKPANG SUNDAY AND OKECHUKWU, CHIDOLUO VITUS

  •

The wind can blow any place that it wants to blow and nothing can stop it. It is like the whirlwind that did no one any good. The wind was coming to the end, of the eight years of Muhammad Buhari as the president of Nigeria. These included large projects, launching of books and programs on how to leave Nigeria more peaceful for the new leader. Nigeria would not divide in his own time and he made sure he kept white and quiet to the things that he see and would not want to make mistakes. Recalling back during the military  regime he was head of state for three years; 31 December 1983 to 27 August 1985 after a coup d’état to over thrown the then civilian president Shehu Shagari  who by election in September 1979 was elected, Buhari was overthrown in August 1985 also through a coup d’état by general Ibrahim Babangida and other members of the military supreme council then, rumour has it that he was overthrown inconsequentially when he was away from the country for an international functions and he saw the bastardize effect of bad leadership and wish he wouldn’t  want such mistake repeat itself again. He has seen the whole world and the good that it could give. He is ready to go back to the farm and enjoy old age in peace.

He gave a farewell speech that said it all and he felt fulfilled that he has caught so many of the criminals who were looting the country but where the money went to we were not told. He felt confident leaving the country better and secure than he had met it. He made time for everything except for education.

During the war, he played a big role by fighting in the side of the Nigerian soldiers against separatism. He is a father and rare gem. He learns to win from the beginning. During his inauguration ceremony and speech in   29th may 2015, he made a lot of promises to fulfill. Crude oil found in designates area of the country, like Maiduguri, the Anambra, Imo and Enugu will be attended to.

Buhari is a strategist. He has learned to use strategy to win life battles and minds of the people. Buhari made some achievements and he made some enemies. He invested in the rail way transportation which is yet to reach Onitsha. I was among the people who never pray to go to Awka with a bus or a car or to go to Oraukwu with a car.

To my own observation, I discovered that most of the major project was mainly focus to the north. You can mention a lot of projects in the north including the entrepreneurship center commissioned 2023 in Kaduna State. Nearly all the projects are sent to the north and more works done in the east are minimal to judge what good he has done to the people. He didn’t secure the east army base for the training of the soldiers, or air training center or the wanted port. Enugu, Anambra and Imo needs to have a business port of its own. Onitsha should have a port of its own, even, if it is s a small port.

Another area of my grievance is that, the outgoing president, didn’t attend any graduation ceremony in any of the university; talk more of sending a representative.

The N-Power has given jobs to many people and he has fed many young Nigerians who would have ended up in crime and in death-I give the outgoing president kudos for these.

School feeding project which was enacted by the Buhari regime in 2016  to battle with pupils curriculum challenges and aim at establishing a safety net for the poor, increasing enrolment and eradication of malnutrition in school-age children; which food were distributed in all primary schools of the federation except in Anambra and some eastern state, who were actually siphoning the food? Is a question that deserved an answer.

During his regime lot of uproar were heard concerning his administration, but, it was obvious that his government was transparent enough to all and sundry.

Train kidnapped in various regions of the country had made many become more afraid of travelling by  it especially, abduction of passengers in one of the incidents who were threatened to pay ransom, and some of them their family members, went as far as selling their properties in other to pay for their release.

The colonial masters led with good leadership traits and accountability, a senator of four years seems richer than the past president of America; that is a food for thought.

During the colonial era, there was nothing like strike or unnecessary protest, in the past administration there was tension of strike and effect of strike. And one of them was ASUU strike for almost ten months. Chinwoke Mbadinju was former governor of Anambra state from 29 may 1999 to 29th may 2003 who passed away 11 April 2023 at age 77, during his tenure, he could not pay salary to workers and pensioner retirement packages, he resorted to calling pensioners dead woods which was very sarcastic in nature.

Why would the country depend only on crude oil, the agricultural sector seems neglected, and discovering of oil is happening everyday and yet this country is not reliable, in the production of oil. The case of oil subsidy removal and the price of fuel has gone from 89, 90 and today to 500 this is to hectic to talk about. What  about the health sector, we need  health facility with modern equipments, just like the president and people of north Korean has done. We can do better if leaders put in concrete plan and effort; to improve the health sector.

Some of our leaders had made promises and failed, from president to the local government councilors, prices of commodities are skyrocketing

The money exchange value is at 200 to 250 as at some years pass, but, now the exchange rate is almost 700. The debt ‘old habit’ is a very disturbing issue, debt the federal government is owing other country, should be seriously look into and something, should be done. The broken window theory is a theory of analysising the positive and the negative, the good and bad view of Buhari regime which amendment should be made, in most areas  by the new administration.

During the past election, life were lost threat went out against, those who might win and those who might not, all things been equal, a winner emerge according to the electoral body.

The farewell speech of former president Buhari emphasize on forgiveness as our watch word, he urge every Nigerian to forget the pass, those defeated and those who won, should shakes hands together and make our country great again.
