HERBAL, ORTHODOX AND DIVINE MEDICINE

 

Health-when health is talk about, we are referring to the totality of the wellness of a human being. And there are many many interventions, which had been inculcated to battle with the deficiencies humans encounter with their bodies. I remember back in the days, when the orthodox medicine was not easily accessible, herbs where used to treat infirmities. And most times these infirmities with herbs are treated by spiritualist, who involves spiritism to enhance the treatment, and at the end of the day, these persons either get well or died in the process.

There is nothing wrong with herbal medicine, as far as it takes care of whatsoever infirmities. But I want to bring to our notice that, there are disease conditions, which herbs cannot handle; these diseases need high combinations of treatment to tackle them. 

These three areas of treatments are very important in the sense, that, the usefulness cannot be under estimated. Health practitioners’ slogan is ‘We Cure God Heals;’ this is simply interpreted that with orthodox medicine God is still involved.

There are many instances in the bible where Jesus heals people in cases of leprosy ( see Luke 17:12-19) he will tell them to go and show themselves to the priest and when he heals some of the blinds  he tells them to go and wash in the water,( see John 9:7),

I want to brings to our notice that most of the  drugs uses by medical practitioners are derived from plants, which are thoroughly mix with unharmful  chemicals to enhance their effectiveness and the orthodox medicine practitioners  do the business of administering these drugs in their proximity.

Orthodox system of treatment is a system which medical doctors and other health care professionals (such as nurses, pharmacist and therapist) treat symptoms and diseases using drugs, medication or surgery. This practice is also called allopathic medicine, biomedicine, conventional medicine, mainstream medicine and western medicine.

 Herbal medicine in the other hand is the use of plants to treat disease and enhance general health and wellbeing and herbs can also interact with other pharmaceutical drugs for treatment. 

 And Divine medicine is attributed to the direct agency of God usually in response to faith.

So, the trajectory of these treatments cannot be totally dismissed. Treating one in expense of the other is abuse of treatment, to be crystal clear over this issue; I want you to know that a lot of patients in hospitals nationwide are suffering tremendously, as a result of not accessing the rightful treatment from the right source.

In a scenario where a person is sick of buruli ulcer; a bacterial infectious disease cause by a bacteria called mycobacterium ulcera, which starts as nodule (a boil) when infected by the bacteria and accelerate into a plaque (a swelling) and an ulcer (a wound) and basically this disease can be gotten from moist environment; where there is stagnard water, muddy areas or farmlands.

These kind of disease need an orthodox treatment to kill the bacteria involve and heal the wounds by taking care of it in a hospital. Taking this kind of disease to a traditionalist or herbal treatment is very dangerous; dangerous in the sense that, most of the instrument used, can cause more harm than good.

Another thing that is a very important note to assimilate is on the condition of divine healing and any medical intervention. Let’s also bring in this scenario where a person is sick and disease with a chronic disease and he or she goes to attend a church programme and a preacher prayed for such a person and healing was pronounce and at the end of the day such an individual is asked or told to throw away his medication, as an evidence to proof that such a person is heal.

For instance if a person is HIV positive and goes for prayers or church programme and miracles took place, it is necessary and important to go for a confirmatory test in a comprehensive health facility, so as to be certain of the miracle; if such exercise is not done, we should be rest assured that such miracles is faked or debatable.

It is very pity to say some prayer houses are harbouring patients who are suppose to be under doctors and nurses or health practitioners monitoring and care, in the name of treatment, these patients are given so called ‘special treatment’ and sometimes this prayer houses end up using, herbs and orthodox drugs, to treat their patients unprofessionally and extort money from them. And to add to the sad story, by the time it will be dawn on the attendant, that such cases should go to the hospital; the patient health had deteriorated drastically.

The health practitioner effort become effortless, because, the condition the patient came in with is very pitiable and most times this patient end up dying; as they are wheel into the health facility.

I want to say ironically, that many patients are seriously, brainwash with traditional belief of herbal treatment, believing it to be the best remedy for their ailment and some other people bunking the notion that orthodox medicine is the only solution to their ill-health. And many belief in divine medicine to get well and refusing to take medication, even if the treatment of such ailment needs medication to get well.

I belief in the healing power of God, let’s not forget the fact that God can heal any manner of diseases, and, God in his infinite wisdom and mercy had been able to give to man what will sustain him holistically. And our health was not over looked. So, it is very expedient to involves, these treatments to handle our health not taking one in expense of the other.
